We don’t add any breakers to your panel. We don’t touch your breakers at all. The disconnect and hub go in between your meter and your main panel, upstream of everything, and we replace the feeders between them. Whether your panel has ten open slots or zero doesn’t change the job.

That’s a better arrangement than the generator alone. The battery covers the short outages silently and on its own, which is nearly all of them, and you never hear the generator. For a rare multi-day event you run it for an hour to refill the battery and shut it off again, instead of running it all night to power the house.

Base Core is a ground-mounted battery, 35.9 inches tall, 30.7 inches wide and 22 inches deep, holding 39.2 kWh. Roughly two and a half feet wide and about waist height. It sits on a small pad outside, and the disconnect mounts on the wall near your meter.

The disconnect is around 21 inches tall by 15 wide and 7 deep, a bit bigger than a standard breaker panel door.

Yes, and it’s a small addition to the job. We clamp a current sensor onto your solar wires so the system can see what your panels are producing. Your solar equipment stays as it is, and we don’t rewire anything on that side.

Solar also helps during an outage, since the panels put charge back into the battery through the day rather than leaving it to drain. Base offers buyback on what you export, and the details of how that lands on your bill are a question for them.

Fair question, and it’s the one people ask us most once they understand how this works.

Your battery is part of a network. When the Texas grid is under strain, Base can draw on that network to help hold the system up. That’s the whole reason the hardware costs a few hundred dollars instead of tens of thousands, and it’s why the grid gets more stable as more of these go in.

Base holds a reserve charge back for your backup and watches weather and grid conditions to protect it. The app shows you what you’ve got at any moment.

The exact terms are in your agreement with Base rather than with us, so read that part properly and ask them anything you’re unsure about. We’d rather you go in with your eyes open than find out later.

No. Base rates it at 55 decibels at one metre, which is about the level of a fridge humming or a quiet conversation. Stand next to it and you’ll hear something. Sit on the patio and you won’t.

Compared with a generator it’s silent, and that’s the part people notice during an outage. No engine, no fumes, no waking the neighbours at 2am.

Not you. Permits are pulled and inspections handled as part of the job, and if your HOA needs a submittal that gets prepared and sent.

The battery doesn’t touch your wall. It sits on its own pad on the ground, a few inches clear, which is partly so air can move around it and partly so you can still paint behind it.

The disconnect does mount to the wall near your meter, the same way your existing electrical equipment does. We fix into studs where they’re there and use the right anchors where they aren’t.

It’s built to live outside in this climate. The battery is rated from well below freezing to well above anything Texas has produced, and it’s sealed against rain and dust.

Heat and cold do affect how a battery behaves, as they do with your car. In practice, the weeks when you’re most likely to need it are exactly the weeks it’s designed for.
