Charging and backup power for Central Texas homes

Travis County leads Texas in EV adoption, and plenty of those cars are Teslas built down the road at Giga Texas. Most drivers want the same thing: a clean, full-speed charger at home and a plan for the next time the power goes out.

We handle both. A charger can go in within a few hours. Batteries, generators and vehicle-to-home systems take more planning, and we size them around what you actually want running in an outage.

What we install in Austin

One licensed crew for charging and backup power, so the charger, the battery and the panel work are planned together.

Tesla and Emporia chargers from stock, or the one you already have. Hardwired at up to 48A, with load management when the panel is tight.

Austin know-how

Which utility serves your address, which city you’re in and how old the house is all change the job. We work with all of them every week.

Your utility

Austin Energy, PEC and the rest

Inside Austin it’s usually Austin Energy. West and south of town it’s often Pedernales Electric Cooperative. A charger works the same on any of them; service upgrades and battery interconnection follow each utility’s own process, and we handle it.

  • Austin Energy
  • Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC)
  • Oncor (Round Rock, parts of Pflugerville and Hutto)
  • Georgetown Utility Systems
  • Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative (east of Austin)

Permits

City of Austin and the suburbs

Inside Austin city limits, permits go through the City of Austin Development Services Department. Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown and the other cities each run their own. Where a permit is needed, we pull it and meet the inspector. Some unincorporated areas don’t require one, and we install to the same code either way.

Austin homes

Older panels and ice storms

Central Austin has plenty of older homes with full or dated panels, so we check yours first and use load management before suggesting an upgrade. After Winter Storm Uri and the February 2023 ice storm, many Austin homeowners add backup power at the same time as a charger.

Pricing

What a home charger install costs

Almost all of it is distance. Every foot between your panel and where you park is wire, conduit and labor.

Up to 10 ft

$800

Panel in the garage, charger on a nearby wall.

10 to 50 ft

$1,300

Across the garage, through an attic, or around a corner.

50 ft and up

$2,000+

Detached garage, a second-story run, or a trench.

Typical installs. Prices don’t include the charger, permits, panel upgrades or load management, and assume your panel can carry a Level 2 charger. Need a charger? We’ll add one from stock to your quote.

I received quotes from three different electric vehicle (EV) charger installation companies. Charge Pro stood out as the easiest and most straightforward option. They didn’t engage in upselling, such as memberships, and offered very competitive pricing. The entire process, from obtaining the quote to the installation and payment, was seamless. The two electricians they dispatched were friendly, professional, and did an excellent job. They provided clear explanations, assisted me in setting up the app, and left the work area spotless. Based on this positive experience, I will definitely call Charge Pro for any future electrical needs.

Austin questions

Does Austin Energy still offer an EV charger rebate?

Not the old one. Austin Energy’s old installation rebate ended in fall 2026. Its current program offers a smaller rebate on the charger itself for customers who enroll in Power Partner EV, so check Austin Energy for the latest terms. Our prices don’t depend on a rebate.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in Austin?

Inside Austin city limits, a new charger circuit usually needs an electrical permit. We pull it, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector. Some surrounding areas don’t require one, and the work is done to the same code either way.

How soon can you install?

Most quotes come back the same day from your photos. Once you accept, it’s a scheduling question. If it’s urgent, tell us and we’ll look for the first gap in the Austin schedule.

My house is on PEC, not Austin Energy. Does that matter?

Not for a standard charger. It matters for service upgrades, batteries and solar, because each utility has its own approval process. We work with PEC, Oncor, Georgetown Utility Systems and Bluebonnet as well as Austin Energy.

Do you install Tesla Powershare and Powerwall in Austin?

Yes. We’re a Tesla Certified Installer and install Powerwall 3, Powershare for Cybertruck, and GM Energy vehicle-to-home systems around Austin.
